Ductile woven silk fibre thermoplastic composites with quasi-isotropic strength

چکیده

The combination of ductile Bombyx Mori silk fibre with thermoplastic matrices, combined the use a woven architecture, leads to composites quasi-isotropic strength. Bending and tensile properties were determined for (0,90)s twill weave composites, different polymers as reference epoxy resin. Thermoplastic are isotropic in strength (about 135 MPa at 50% volume fraction) due high elongation failure both matrix allowing extensive shearing fabric when loaded 45° direction. A good quality interface has clear positive influence on mechanical especially bending yield
